Thoughts from the Theater - Insidious meet House
Let me say right off the bat that I enjoyed Insidious. As I was watching, I couldn't help but think of how reminiscent it was to
Poltergeist as I'm sure you did as well.
I do realize that every movie takes a bit from every other, so after having gotten passed the familiarities, I found myself watching yet another horror classic recently and comparing once
again a similar story structure.
Has anyone seen the 1986 classic House starring William Katt and George Wendt?
If you haven't watched it since you were a kid like I did,
you may not have remembered the ending
which I found can be compared to that of Insidious.
**A House Spoiler(but honestly you should have seen it by now**
Once the main actor of House, Roger Cobb, smashes through the bathroom mirror to rescue his son, you might as well have called it The Further. The darkness, the creatures, the obstacles preventing a struggling father from getting his boy back. Don't get me wrong, I do not think this is a bad thing, I simply like finding these 'aha' moments and getting a glimpse of where new directors may have pulled inspiration from.
Mippie is the new Hippie
Can we come up with a term for those individuals that do not want to be lumped into the hippie group?
As I've read on wikipedia, they have a term called aftershocks for the hippies from 1970-Present. The stereotypical hippie doesn't shower, does a lot of drugs and sits down to speak their mind.
So what if there are people that have a genuine interest in the universe yet they smell terrific...in fact, you would not even realize from their outer apparel that they have a great interest in the existence of ghosts or think that we are on the brink of telepathic abilities.
I meditate, I use subliminal tapes for reprogramming my consciousness and I believe the law of attraction is working for us everyday. I am fascinated with spiritual experiences.
Strip away the negative connotation of the term Hippie.
There are drug-free, great smelling individuals who believe in the spiritual, the paranormal, the metaphysical...maybe call them for short, meta hippies and even shorter still mippies, the new Hippie.
